Biography
Edward Egan Smith is a partner with the firm. He has extensive experience representing both businesses and individuals in complex commercial litigation, with a focus on real property, title insurance and escrow, labor and employment and civil appeals.
Prior to beginning his law practice, Mr. Smith clerked for The Honorable Robert E. Varner, Senior U.S. District Judge, U.S. District Court, Middle District of Alabama (1991-1992), and The Honorable Ed Carnes, U.S. Circuit Judge, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals (1992-1993).
Mr. Smith currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bentley School, a K-12 coeducational, independent day school in Oakland and Lafayette.
Education
Mr. Smith earned his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (1991), where he served on the editorial board as Senior Research Editor of the Hastings Law Journal. While at Hastings, he authored, “The Criminalization of Belief: When Free Exercise Isn’t,” 42 Hastings L.J. 1491. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia (1987).
